Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur early next year. In view of this, the Election Commission (EC) has given instructions to the governments of these states. He has asked them to transfer the officers posted in their home districts and the officers posted in the same district for three years during the last four years.
The Commission has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of these states on Wednesday. Mentioned that the term of the Legislative Assemblies of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur is ending in March 2022. Whereas the term of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will end on the next 14 May.
Instructions are usually issued by the Election Commission before the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections so that the officials do not interfere in the election process in any way and the democratic process remains fair and free.
“The commission expects that no such officer shall continue to be attached or posted on election duty against whom any criminal case is pending in the court,” the commission said in the letter.
