The rhetoric on this has intensified after a statement by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh regarding Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The history organization of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said that there is a difference between an apology and a mercy petition. At the same time, on the taunt of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, he said that what is Owaisi’s thinking is not known but we have fathers here, they are not made.

In a program on Tuesday, Rajnath Singh had said that on the request of Mahatma Gandhi, Savarkar wrote a mercy petition to the British. On this statement, Owaisi took a jibe that BJP would soon replace Mahatma Gandhi and declare Savarkar as the Father of the Nation.

‘Whoever is in jail has the right to petition for mercy’
The Sangh Pracharak said that whoever is in jail, everyone has the right to give mercy petition. After being in jail for a long time and suffering torture, Savarkar felt that nothing could be done while in jail. Along with this, Gandhiji’s message was also with him. Gandhiji had said that every prisoner has the right to petition for mercy, on that basis Savarkar should come out and do Satyagraha for the country’s independence.
