New Delhi
The Supreme Court has refused to entertain the bail application of Himachal Pradesh’s suspended IG Zahoor Haider Zaidi in the custodial death case. Zaidi was detained in the 2017 custodial death case. A bail application was filed on his behalf seeking bail.

The fact that Zaidi’s bail was canceled last year for influencing an SP-rank officer, a CBI witness, came to light during the hearing before the Supreme Court led by Justice Indira Banerjee. The Supreme Court said that when the petitioner Zaidi can influence such a senior officer, then he can also influence other witnesses.

His lawyer appearing for Zaidi in the Supreme Court said that Zaidi, who has been in custody for three years, should be granted bail. The Supreme Court refused to consider bail. Significantly, a school student from Kotkhai, located some distance from Shimla, went missing. Later the body was found from the forest. Five people were arrested in this case. One of them, Suraj, later died on 18 July 2017. The case was investigated by the CBI and the CBI alleges that he died due to torture in custody. A case was registered against Zaidi and other police officials.
