Poet Pradeep came to offer the composition of the song

The poet Pradeep, who composed the song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo’, had written patriotic songs earlier in an interview, so this proposal came to him.

Kavi Pradeep told that there were three great singers in Bollywood at that time, Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar. During that time Mo. Rafi sang the song ‘We cannot erase our freedom’. Raj Kapoor sang the song ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’ from Mukesh. In such a situation, Lata Mangeshkar survived. Poet Pradeep believed that no warm song would fit in his sweet and velvety voice. He had requested her to sing it. Due to busy schedule it was not possible for him to give special attention to a song. When Kavi Pradeep persuaded her to sing, she agreed to sing it along with Asha Bhosle. Asha refused to go there before leaving for Delhi for the programme. Music composer Hemant Kumar, who orchestrated the project ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’, also tried to persuade Asha Bhosle, but she did not agree. In such a situation, Lata Mangeshkar had to prepare for the song alone.

Time was short, Riyaz did songs on the way
C. Ramchandra, who composed the song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’, had also left for Delhi 4-5 days ago. In such a situation, Lata Mangeshkar could not get his support for Riyaz. Ramchandra had given her a tape of the song, after hearing which she started doing Riyaz. On her way to Delhi by plane for the programme, Lata ji kept listening to the tapes given by Ramchandra. Lata Mangeshkar says, when she reached Delhi at night, her stomach started hurting. Worried about the song. Then she reached the National Stadium in New Delhi on 27 January 1963 and sang the song Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon.

Lata Mangeshkar says that when she went back to the stage after finishing the song, Mehboob Khan came and held hands and said, Chalo Nehru ji ne baula hai. She wondered why Panditji wanted to meet her. When Lata ji reached the stage, everyone including Panditji stood up and welcomed her. Pandit ji praised the song and where his eyes watered.
