A 27-year-old man, who allegedly duped drug dealers by posing as an FDA officer, has been arrested by Colaba police while his female associate is absconding. According to the police, the name of the accused is Rahul Sarate. She called a drug dealer posing as an FDA officer and told that a woman named Surekha Patil had complained that the shopkeeper sold her a food item after the expiry date.
According to the police, Rahul then asked the shop owner to speak to Patil. The woman said that her son fell ill after consuming the food product sold by the said shopkeeper and had to be hospitalised. Rahul demanded Rs 18,300 from him (shopkeeper) for not registering a case against the shopkeeper in this case. However, Rs 10,000 was also paid by the chemist. But he had doubts about Rahul Sarate’s point.
The shop owner thought of investigating it, after which it came to know that the same thing happened to the owner of a drugstore in Colaba only some time back. After this the aggrieved chemist approached the Colaba police. Police laid a trap and arrested Rahul Sarate.
